Anti Social Social Club
Description
Anti Social Social Club (ASSC) is a streetwear staple recognized globally for its melancholic slogans and iconic wavy logo. Who founded Anti Social Social Club
Business of Fashion says Anti Social Social Club was founded by Neek Lurk in 2015. Wikipedia names the founder as Andrew Buenaflor, who goes by the pseudonym Neek Lurk, and says he previously worked as a social marketing manager for Stussy. Highsnobiety also describes him as a Stussy marketing manager turned hoodie entrepreneur.
Highsnobiety's interview article names Ian Coates as co-founder and head of design and says three original co-founders, including Coates, still oversee the company. It says the brand began as a casual in-joke with a knowingly redundant name, and that a press release calls its origin an "accidental art project". Hypebeast's 2016 profile says that "2015 saw the inception of the 'life project,' 2016 brought ASSC to the masses".
Who owns Anti Social Social Club
Business of Fashion reported on 26 May 2022 that the label was purchased by Marquee Brands, a licensing and brand management firm, for an undisclosed sum. Wikipedia says the brand is wholly owned by Marquee Brands as of May 2022.
Highsnobiety quotes Neil Fiske of Marquee Brands as saying "Our plan is to let ASSC be ASSC – with no intent to change the brand DNA, values, or culture", and says Marquee also oversees Ben Sherman and BCBG Max Azria. A separate Highsnobiety interview places the acquisition "around the time" of a cleaned-up ASSC, which had made-to-order collections and logistics programmes by 2023, without an exact year; the dated Business of Fashion report gives 2022.
The look
Highsnobiety describes black hoodies and slogans such as "Sick & Tired". It names team-ups as established as BAPE and UNDEFEATED, and partners including Alpinestars, Hello Kitty, Playboy and the US Postal Service.
Collaborations
Wikipedia's article lists collaborations with Playboy, Dover Street Market, Hello Kitty, Hot Wheels, Gran Turismo, A Bathing Ape, Rimowa, Formula 1, FaZe Clan, Goodsmile Racing and DHL, without giving dates in the article text.
