Who founded Arc'teryx

Wikipedia says Arc'teryx began in 1989 in North Vancouver as Rock Solid and calls Dave Lane a co-founder. It says Lane sold his interest in 1990, 50% to Blair Murdoch and Tim Duholke and 50% to Jeremy Guard, and that the new owners changed the name to Arc'teryx in 1991. This account rests on Wikipedia alone: we could not confirm the founding year or founders on the brand's own site.

Per Wikipedia, the company moved to Burnaby in 1999 and returned to North Vancouver in 2005.

Who owns Arc'teryx

Wikipedia says the Salomon Group bought Arc'teryx in 2001 and Amer Sports bought it in 2005. The footer of arcteryx.com reads "Arc'teryx - an Amer Sports Brand", and Amer Sports' Wikipedia entry lists it alongside Atomic, Armada, Peak Performance, Salomon and Wilson, describing it as "Outdoor apparel for mountaineering and alpine sports".

Investing.com reported on 7 December 2018 that a consortium led by Anta Sports had announced an offer for Amer Sports valued at 4.6 billion euros ($5.23 billion), at 40 euros per share in cash; named members included Tencent, FountainVest Partners and Anamered Investments, linked to Chip Wilson. BicycleRetailer reported on 15 August 2019 that Mascot Bidco Oy, "a group led by Chinese sports brand Anta", had acquired all shares of Amer. Amer Sports' Form 20-F for fiscal 2025 lists its ordinary shares on the NYSE under the ticker AS.

Wikipedia's Amer Sports entry lists Anta Sports as the largest owner at 44.5%, with no as-of date, so we treat the current stake as unsettled.

What Arc'teryx makes

Wikipedia describes Veilance, founded in 2009, as Arc'teryx's luxury formal streetwear line, and names LEAF (Law Enforcement and Armed Forces) as another division.

Wikipedia credits writer Jason Chen with introducing the term gorpcore in The Cut in 2017, a blend of normcore and gorp (trail mix).

Collaborations

Highsnobiety reported that Virgil Abloh's Off-White Fall/Winter 2020 show in Paris seemingly featured gowns made from hacked-up Arc'tyrex Alpha SV hiking jackets, which it says Abloh had worn on the Louis Vuitton men's runway in Paris that January. It said whether a bigger project would follow remained to be seen.

Highsnobiety, labelling the Palace x Arc'teryx capsule FW20, said it would be online from 11 December and in store at Palace in London, New York and Los Angeles, with the Alpha SV GORE-TEX jacket in gray/black and cobalt with crimson hood trim as the hero piece. It listed Japan on 12 December and said the capsule would also be available on 19 December at Arc'teryx stores in Shanghai, Beijing and Chengdu and on the brand's WeChat channel. Items included insulated jackets, puffers, hoodies, tees, caps, bucket hats, fanny packs and climbing pants.

Where to buy Arc'teryx and what it costs

The brand's site sells men's and women's product online, shows a free shipping banner, links an outlet at outlet.arcteryx.com and has a "Find a store" link; it gives no store count or retail partner list.

A March 2025 OutdoorGearLab review gave the Beta SL jacket (previously labelled Beta LT) a list price of $500 USD. The Canadian storefront at arcteryx.com showed a Cormac Hoody at $120.00, with the currency shown only as a dollar sign and no year given; evo (Canada) listed a Cormac Hoodie at CA$100.00, sold out and with no sale label. 6pm showed the Cormac Crew short sleeve at $63.00 against an MSRP of $70.00, and Kragg at $48.00 against an MSRP of $160.00, both marked as on sale. Asphaltgold listed Kragg Canvas at EUR 67, down from EUR 159, sold out. Except where dated, those pages showed no date, so treat them as checked October 2026. The prices are in different currencies and some are sale prices, so they are not a like-for-like comparison.
