Who founded Basketcase
Complex says Zach Kinninger launched Basketcase and designs it; a 2024 Complex interview calls him its founder. It says he began design work as a college freshman because he wanted tattoos and artists could not sketch his ideas, so he taught himself Photoshop and Illustrator, and early on he digitally printed T-shirts. Complex says he later began making tattoo stencils for other people.
We found no co-founder. Discobrands says the brand remains independently owned; no source we checked names its owner.
When did Basketcase launch
The sources disagree. A 2019 Complex article says Kinninger launched Basketcase in August 2017, and the same article says a December 2017 pop-up in Costa Mesa, California drew roughly 200 visitors. A Complex interview from November 2024 says the brand formally launched in 2019 and began earlier as Kinninger's college side project. That interview's own dates are internally inconsistent. Our directory lists 2017.
Where Basketcase is based
Discobrands describes Basketcase as a Southern California label founded by Kinninger and run from Costa Mesa. The directory lists Los Angeles as the origin, which we have not been able to confirm from these sources. Discobrands' facts table lists manufacturing as made in Asia.
The look and what Basketcase makes
Complex says Basketcase is still heavily influenced by tattoos, as well as vintage graphics and clothing. It reports graphics printed on Dickies, jeans, Army PT shorts and sweaters, with Western imagery, skulls and basketball-inspired art.
Discobrands says collections are released in limited runs developed with emerging artists, and that designs often carry hand-drawn artwork with religious and goth-leaning motifs and mostly neutral colours with red as a recurring accent. It says the output centres on washed and treated denim, graphic tees and hoodies, workwear jackets and leather outerwear.
New Balance collaboration
Complex's 2024 interview covers a New Balance Minimus MT10 collaboration released on 8 November, available only by raffle, with hand-drawn designs by an artist named Jamie Lopez. The article also mentions a New Balance 1906 collaboration, but its date is inconsistent, so we give none.
Where to buy Basketcase and what it costs
Basketcase has its own webstore at basketcase.gallery. When we checked in October 2026 it was password-gated and showed "Website is closed" with no products or prices. A Complex interview says the website opens only during monthly release periods. Discobrands says releases come in limited runs and lists the stockists Notre, Xhibition and JUICE.
With no official price list available, these are third-party figures checked in October 2026. A SoleFeed storefront listed a Cocoon Tee at $101, a Scar Thermal Lined Zip Hoodie at $224, Lax Blowout denim at $268 and a Souvenir Jacket at $279, without saying whether they were retail or sale prices. HBX showed an Enter Hoodie in vintage black at £60, reduced from £140, and an Enter Cap at £25, reduced from £55. Those are retailer sale prices in pounds and are not comparable to the dollar listings.
