Who founded NEIGHBORHOOD

Hypebeast says Shinsuke Takizawa was born in Nagano Prefecture, spent about eight years at the Major Force label, eventually becoming its director, and resigned in 1994 to launch NEIGHBORHOOD. Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo lists 1994 as the year the brand was established. Highsnobiety also gives 1994, and says Takizawa launched the brand to create his own streetwear label.

Hypebeast adds that Tetsu Nishiyama, later a WTAPS designer, joined as creative director. We did not find a source that says who owns NEIGHBORHOOD today.

Why it was made

Hypebeast describes Takizawa as an avid motorcycle enthusiast who made the label "to fill a gap in the market for high quality, technical motorcycle apparel", and lists military, workwear, counter-culture, Native American and outdoors themes among its influences. Highsnobiety names a narrower set: American military, biker and rock & roll culture.

What NEIGHBORHOOD makes

Harresoe's brand chronicle names rugged selvedge denim, graphic tees, utility vests and M-65 jackets as signature pieces that became staples.

On END.'s US site we saw jackets, denim, hoodies, tees and Y-3 x NBHD Nizza sneakers when we checked in October 2026. Highsnobiety calls the 2004 adidas Superstar one of the most coveted sneaker releases of its era and dates NEIGHBORHOOD's first collaboration with Supreme to 2007.

Silver and the CORE JEWELS medals

Hypebeast, in an article dated 28 November 2017, reported a NEIGHBORHOOD x CORE JEWELS capsule of two skull-and-crossbones medals tied to the Tokyo jewelry brand's LUXEDGE concept. One medal was in 925 silver and one in 18k gold, each with treated deer skin rope, beads and black spinel stones, and both carried "NEIGHBORHOOD Crafted With Pride" branding. The article said the drop was on 2 December and gave no price.

That capsule is the only silver product we found in any opened source. We found no evidence either way on whether NEIGHBORHOOD sells an ongoing silver line.

Where to buy NEIGHBORHOOD and what it costs

Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo lists the brand's site as neighborhood.jp and its web store as neighborhood-store.jp. A Hypebeast post from December 2007 described the NBHD webshop as Japan only at that time, so that may not reflect current shipping. END.'s US site sells NEIGHBORHOOD apparel and footwear with prices in US dollars.

On END.'s US site in October 2026 we saw a Pigment Dyed Logo T-Shirt at $125 and a Classic 2-Pack T-Shirts at $59, a Staple Logo Zip Hoodie at $245, a Zip Work Jacket at $299, Rigid Denim DP Basic jeans at $225 and a Savage Denim Type-1 Jacket at $689. Three items were marked down when we checked: a Pigment Dyed Sweat Hoodie at $125 against a listed $249 (50% off), and Wide Leg Selvedge Denim jeans at $244 against $325 (25% off). The Y-3 x NBHD Nizza Lo sneaker showed $198 against $395 (50% off). These listings carried no date, and they are one retailer's snapshot rather than the brand's own pricing.
