Who founded Off-White

The official site says Virgil Abloh founded Off-White in 2013 as a multi-platform creative endeavor, combining ideas of streetwear, luxury, art, music and architecture. Complex's timeline lists the 2013 founding as made in partnership with New Guards Group.

Wikipedia's text adds that the company was first founded as PYREX VISION by Abloh in Milan in 2012 and renamed Off-White in 2013, although its infobox gives 2013. We found no second source for the 2012 date, so we treat 2013 as the founding year.

Complex reports that Abloh had been artistic director of Louis Vuitton Men's, another LVMH-owned house, since 2018. CBS News reported that Abloh died at 41; a statement on his Instagram account attributed his death to cardiac angiosarcoma, and said he had kept his battle private since a 2019 diagnosis.

Who owns Off-White

Complex says Farfetch acquired New Guards Group in August 2019 for $675 million, and that Farfetch would operate Off-White under license from then on. The Business of Fashion reported on 20 July 2021 that LVMH had agreed to acquire a 60 percent stake in Off-White LLC, the owner of the Off-White trademark. Glossy says LVMH took majority control in 2021, with Farfetch keeping a minority stake.

Complex reports that on 30 September 2024 LVMH announced the sale of Off-White to Bluestar Alliance LLC, which it describes as a New York-based brand management company, and that the terms were undisclosed. Glossy describes the sale as for an undisclosed sum and calls Bluestar a brand management group that owns several fashion brands, including the skate brand Hurley. None of the sources we opened says whether Farfetch still holds a stake.

The name and the look

The official site says Off-White is defining the grey area between black and white as a color. Wikipedia quotes Abloh giving the same explanation of the name.

Highsnobiety describes the quotation-mark device as placing ordinary words and objects in quotes, with examples such as "Shoelaces", "Sculpture" and "For Walking", and quotes Abloh telling 032c that typography and wording can change the perception of a thing without changing anything about it. The same article reports Abloh comparing the brand's typeface to hazard stripes, which it says unite the disparate motifs running through Off-White's collections.

Creative direction after Abloh

Glossy's 1 October 2024 article says Off-White hesitated to appoint a new creative director and has so far struggled to live up to the days of Abloh's tenure. The Impression reports that Ib Kamara was appointed creative director in 2022 and describes a four-year tenure.

The same Impression article, which carries no date, says Kamara is leaving. It places his final show in March without giving the year, says Off-White announced a project with 10 outside collaborators expected to continue through April 2027, and says no successor has been announced. It quotes Bluestar Alliance CEO Joey Gabbay saying Kamara's contributions have been instrumental in shaping and evolving the brand, and thanking him for his dedication and lasting impact.

Collaborations

Complex reports that Off-White's Nike collaboration "The Ten" debuted in 2017 at the "Off Campus" summit on Wall Street, and that Nike's press release said the full range took 10 months to complete from ideation. Wikipedia's list of Off-White collaborations includes Levi's, Nike, Champion, IKEA, Rimowa, Jimmy Choo, Sunglass Hut, SSENSE, AC Milan, Mattel (Monster High dolls) and the New York Liberty.

Where to buy Off-White and what it costs

Off-White runs an official online store at off---white.com with regional storefronts; the Canadian (en-ca) pages list prices in CA$. FashionUnited reported that the cheaper "For All" unisex range was set to launch in all 11 Off-White stores around the globe on January 8; the article carries no year, and its URL points to 2018.

On the en-ca storefront, undated when we checked it in October 2026, the Off Line Hoodie was listed at CA$770, the Ripped Narciso Regular Hoodie at CA$1,070 and the Half Arrow Regular Zip Hoodie at CA$1,155. Sneakers on the same storefront included the Vulcanized Low Leather Sneakers at CA$685 in white and CA$690 in black, End Of Play Sneakers at CA$770 and Out Of Office Sneakers at CA$980. The pages do not say whether these are sale or full prices.

In US dollars, Simon's shop listed the Diag Helvetica Over Hoodie at a regular $670.00; the page also showed a $179.99 sale price, which it does not tie to a size, and marked all sizes sold out. The "For All" range was priced from $95 for a t-shirt to $170 for a hoodie in the undated FashionUnited article. Stadium Goods, which says its products are pre-authenticated and consigned by sellers, listed a Diags T-Shirt in black and white at $226; the page does not label this as a resale or retail price. These figures use different currencies, products and dates, so we do not offer a like-for-like price comparison between them.
