Patta

Mixmag says Patta was founded in 2004 by Edson Sabajo and Guillaume Schmidt in Amsterdam. Patta's own site says the founders started by bringing sneakers and records back from international travel, which grew into a business partnership, and describes Sabajo as a DJ and Guillaume "Gee" Schmidt as an MC and event host in the Dutch hip-hop and nightlife scene of the 1990s and early 2000s.

Patta's site says the name is slang for "shoe" and refers to the founders' Surinamese heritage.

Virgil Chocolaad, identified in Mixmag as speaking for Patta, said the founders had no outside investors and funded the company themselves. We found no source describing a more recent change in ownership. Patta also describes itself as "one of few internationally revered, black-owned streetwear brands".

Sources differ on where it began. Patta's own site says the company started as a small store on the Zeedijk, while Complex says the Patta store opened at Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal in 2004.

Mixmag describes the label as fusing art and music with a clean aesthetic. Chocolaad is quoted as saying "Patta has love for all" and "Patta is Amsterdam, and Amsterdam is Patta". Mixmag gives the brand's motto as "Out of love and necessity rather than profit and novelty".

Mixmag reports that Sabajo started the Patta Running Team in 2010 to bring friends and family together to train, and describes the Patta Foundation as a non-profit that funds projects to inspire young people in communities.

Complex lists Patta sneaker collaborations including a Nike Air Max 1 "Amsterdam" in 2005, where Patta was in an advisory role, an adidas Superstar 3Way Consortium in 2009, an ASICS GEL Saga in 2011, and a Converse Pro Leather First String and a Reebok Workout 25th Anniversary, both in 2012. The site's collaborations listing also names Crocs, Marcus Elizabeth and Nike. Mixmag mentions an annual Dekmantel capsule and a New York pop-up that had just taken place when it was written.

Patta's online store lists free shipping to the US and the Netherlands, 30-day returns, and payment by Visa, Mastercard, Amex, PayPal and Klarna. It listed no physical store locations when we checked in October 2026.

The store's prices carry a $ sign with no currency code or sale label. Checked in October 2026, it listed a Converse x Patta T-shirt and an Ajax Patta shirt at $120 each, a Black Patta Hoodie at $160, Converse Patta Pants at $150, a Carhartt Patta Jacket at $250 and a Nike Air Max 1 Patta Chlorophyll at $185. END. listed sale prices in euros on the same October 2026 check: a Smooth Operator T-shirt at €38 (€59 before reduction), a Tricot Track Jacket at €65 (€129 before) and a Washed Canvas Jacket at €120 (€239 before). Those are retailer sale prices, and euros and dollars are not directly comparable here.
