Born x Raised is a Los Angeles-based streetwear brand that documents and preserves the local culture of Venice through graphics rooted in Chicano heritage and West Coast street life. Founded by Alex Erdmann (2tone) and the late Chris Printup (Spanto), the label is recognized for its distinctive Old English typography and its focus on the social dynamics and gentrification of its founding neighborhood.

Who founded Born x Raised
Nike SB's archive page says the label was "Founded in 2013 by Chris "Spanto" Printup and Alex "2Tone" Erdmann" and calls it "the Los Angeles brand". Patina's brand text gives the same founders and year. ATTN Agency's review says the brand launched officially in 2013 with a pop-up at Union.
Sources differ on the year. Overkill's blog says the label was founded in 2011 by Printup together with his creative partner Alex "2Tone", while Nike SB, Patina, Overkill's collection page and ATTN give 2013.
ATTN Agency says Erdmann joined the brand after directing a promotional film for Printup, and that Printup screen-printed 36 T-shirts with no formal fashion training, no business plan and no investors. It says the first design featured a Native American head with the words "Gentrification is Genocide" and that the shirts "sold out of his car trunk" to Venice locals. The review gives no dates for these events.
Ownership and Printup's death
Yo! Venice reported, in an article dated 29 June 2023, that Printup died three days after a car accident in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Overkill says the label continues under his longtime partner and team. We did not find a source that says who owns the company.
What Born x Raised makes
The brand's own site lists T-shirts, longsleeves, crewnecks, hoodies, jerseys, jackets, bottoms, headwear and accessories, with collection names that reference the NFL, MLB, the LA Dodgers and a Looney Tunes collaboration. Its site lists NFL team pieces such as a 49ers crest tee and a Bears crest hoodie.
Overkill, a retailer, describes the aesthetic as Old English typography and strong colours, drawing on Los Angeles subcultures including punk, hip-hop, skateboarding, surfing, and Chicano and Latino culture.
Collaborations
Patina says the label has collaborated with Nike, Stüssy, Levi's and the LA Dodgers. Nike SB lists a Nike SB Dunk Low Born x Raised in a Deep Royal/White-Black colourway, released in September 2023 in the US through bornxraised.com on 28 September and worldwide on 6 October.

The brand's own site has a cart and login and lists free shipping for US orders over $200, so it sells direct online. Overkill and Patina Supply also carry the label.
The brand's site listed the Applique Stack Hoodie at $140, the Bar Towel Bomber at $275, a 49ers Blockletter Tee at $50, a 49ers Old English Snapback at $50 and a Casinola Dice 3-Pack at $20, with no sale marking shown. Patina listed the Speed Rocker T-Shirt at £50 and the Paranoia Football Jersey at £125 as regular prices. These listings showed no date when we checked them in October 2026, and the currencies differ, so they are not a like-for-like comparison.
